MS-Outlook is most trusted email- application chosen by users. Microsoft does a great evolution in recent years with introducing Outlook 2013. Outlook 2013 is blessed with more robust and advanced features that are simply WOW. Every technology has both aspects i.e. good or bad. It is not mandatory every application works like a rocket and run without error. Same prospective is applied to Outlook application. While working with Outlook in our daily routine, we usually face few common issues that are:

  • Error while sending and receiving email
  • Errors related to server
  • Errors with PST File
  • Emails get stuck in Outbox
  • Errors with personal folders
  • Authentication errors
  • Outlook denied opening
  • Unable to delete emails and many more
  • These common errors not only hamper user work also make Outlook annoyed.
These common errors not only hamper user work but also make Outlook annoyed. These errors seem same and bit confusing. Need not to get nervous like every lock has a key in the same way every error can resolve. In this post I highlight few common errors as well as share solutions too. The following are common Outlook errors with their codes.

Error with deletion of emails:  Error Code "0x80040119"

Usually it happens with us most of time when user tries to delete the emails present in their mailbox they receive error message:

“Messaging interface has caused an Unknown error”

Reason behind this error is improper working of Outlook file i.e. PST. We all are familiar with PST file and its working. Let’s proceed to solution
Key to solution
  • First step to resolve problem is Exit of Outlook application
  • DO repair your PST file as it is recommended by Microsoft
  • Check whether cache mode is disable or unable
  • Select Data Files and clean all archived (PST) folders
  •  To check the changes start Outlook application
  • Now, user is free to add PST files
Errors with Authentication

Authentication is also a common process done with Outlook profile. While working with Outlook we usually face Authentication errors. Usually we receive a message while doing authentication with a network i.e.

                                  “My Outgoing server requires authentication”

Reason behind this error is access of outlook account with different networks. Different networks like: home network, office network, Wi-fi approach etc. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) has its own rules book that why user receive error while operating Outlook on different networks.

Solution Key

Solution to this error is very simple
  • Open Account Settings tab and select option More Settings under change section
  • Select option “Outgoing Server tab”
NOTE: Also have a look on option “Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail”
  •  Enable the check box button
Now, restart Outlook application to check whether problem is resolved or not

Error messages with server

Outlook users also face error messages with server. As I told above Outlook automatically configured user’s profile with Outlook account and also there is one more option to configure Outlook profile i.e. manual method. While creating Outlook profile user receives a message on screen

“Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable”.

This is a common message faced by Outlook users
Solution Key

To sort out this problem, user needs to modify their registry. I advise user to take backup of registry as a registry are power house of system. One wrong editing will result in heavy loss of data.
Steps to Edit Registry

Point your cursor to Start button and choose Run option and type ‘regedit’ in the text box. Proceed

Navigate registry key to Underwritten address:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC.
  • Open Edit Menu and move to NEW option
  • Now, click on value ‘DWORD’
  • Enter text Def Connect Opts, and hit ENTER.
  • Do right-click on Def Connect Opts, and modify the option
  • Enter 0 in the Value data box and click OK
  • This will resolve the problem accurately
Errors with Personal Folders

Outlook stores all information of user mail box in PST file. As user created profile in Outlook then PST files created automatically with user profile. While dealing with Outlook, sometimes a pop up appears on user screen displaying message

“Cannot open  your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened.”
Solution Key

Solution of this problem is very simple. Firstly user needs to locate Outlook.exe file that is located at location:

Location of file:
  C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12.

Now, Select Outlook.exe by doing right click on Outlook.exe files and choose option Properties
Enable the check box entitle as ‘Run this program in compatibility mode’ categorized under Compatibility Tab
Now, restart outlook application

Error2:”Can’t open your default email folder”

Error message of this type is also a common error message that occurs due to personal files folders. There may be possibility for corruption in PST files.

Reason behind this error is corruption of header. This utility will reset the file structure and rebuild all corrupted errors. To get rid of this error, Microsoft suggested a free utility named as “Inbox Repair Tool”. This utility is inbuilt is user system under location:

Location of Utility: c:\users\owner\documents\software info\outlook.pst

Information: Scanpst.exe will work for only files available at user system not for files available on Microsoft Exchange Server

I hope information provided above is useful for user.
